Fishing
Perthshire is one of the world's most famous areas for Salmon fishing with the 119 mile River Tay dominating the county.

And not every Hotel can offer you such a wonderful opportunity to fly fish on three beautiful trout lochs in the 'Hidden Glen' right in the Heart of Scotland.

Read about the area in this article by Jim Boyd, Scotland's most prolific angling writer/photographer who each week reaches an enormous audience by writing angling columns for the Sunday Post, Daily Express, Daily Star and the Wee County News. In addition to this he also produces the highly acclaimed 'Angling special' which appears each March in the Sunday Post colour magazine.

Shooting
Many types of shooting, stalking and hunting are available in the immediate area and the hotel can help put together a great package for an individual or a group. Do enquire in advance as while you can shoot something in Scotland 365 days a year, some opportunities are seasonal, you may require to observe certain formalities especially if you are bringing guns from overseas, and as we work with local agents plenty of notice is desirable so that you will not be disappointed. In some cases a minimum number of participants is required.

Choose from first class bird shooting with the driven pheasant and grouse, rough shooting, woodcock and some unbelievable goose shooting. There is also deer stalking for red, roe, sika and fallow deer together with a wealth of other sporting activities you can combine such as golf, fishing, hill walking and Munro climbing.

Scone Palace
Scone is a place that breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. Today it is the home of the Earls of Mansfield, and a major attraction to visitors from all over the world. Fifteen hundred years ago, it was the capital of the Pictish kingdom and the centre of the ancient Celtic church. In the intervening centuries, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of Kings. It has housed the Stone of Destiny and been immortalised in Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Poised above the River Tay, it overlooks the routes north to the Highlands and east through Strathmore to the coast. The Grampian mountains form a distant backdrop, and across the river stands the city of Perth. 2000 years ago, the Romans camped here, at the very limit of their empire. They never defeated the warlike Picts, who later came to rule Scone, but the followers of St Columba had more success. By the early 7th century, a group of early Christians, the Culdees, had established themselves here.

Castle Menzies
This spectacular sixteenth century castle, restored by the Menzies Clan society, welcomes visitors. Seat of the Chiefs of Clan Menzies for over 400 years and importantly situated, it was involved in the turbulent history of the Highlands and here Bonnie Prince Charlie rested on his way to Culloden in 1746.

Architecturally fascinating, it is a splendid example of the transition between an earlier rugged fortress and later mansion house and contains many features of interest together with a number of family portraits, specimen pieces of furniture and a small clan museum. There is also a walled garden.

Edadour Distilleries Edradour is unique, single Highland malt whisky, to be enjoyed in recognition of those small, significant moments that make up the ebb and flow of life.

Edradour is produced in Scotland's smallest distillery - and is handmade today as it was over 150 years ago by just three men who are devoted to the time-honoured methods of whisky making. Indeed equipment used at the distillery has remained unchanged since the day the distillery opened and is only just capable of producing commercial quantities. Only 12 casks of whisky are produced a week, making Edradour single malt a rare pleasure for a fortunate few.

If you manage to find it, you will be one of the few people lucky enough to experience its charm - golden in the glass, smooth and creamy with a nutty, honeyed finish. Enjoy Life's small victories with Edradour.
